PROGRAMMING AIMS
We want to work with vibrant, passionate and talented theatre makers. We want to help them stage successful shows, develop as artists and connect with their audience. As an organisation, we are courageous, creative and inclusive and we look for the same qualities in the artists we work with.
TYPES OF PERFORMANCE THE VENUE IS SUITABLE FOR
The Space is a converted church and an atmospheric venue, not your typical black box studio. The flexibility of the Space allows for end-on, thrust and in-the-round staging.
The hall floor is approximately 9m x 9m with a stage at one end. We can accommodate shows with large casts and shows requiring high headroom. Our programme is largely theatre-based but we have hosted dance, music, puppetry and comedy.
The Space Bar is a characterful, charming and intimate bar & kitchen.
The Space is located at the bottom of the Isle of Dogs, a short bus ride from Canary Wharf and just across the river from Greenwich.
Please direct questions about the venue to: matthew@space.org.uk
DATES OF FESTIVAL PERFORMANCES
The Space will programme Voila! Festival performances from 4-16 November 2025.
NUMBER OF PERFORMANCES
We’re open to programming Voila! Festival shows for 2,3, or 4 performances at the Space.
RUNNING TIMES
Festival shows should ideally be between 50 and 90 minutes long. We cannot programme shows shorter than 45 minutes.
TECH TIMES
We do not have an in-house technician, companies will need to provide their own technical support. Tech slots will vary depending on the needs of the production, please indicate how much time you will need so that we may accommodate.
TURNAROUND TIMES & VENUE ACCESS
We will tend to programme more than one show per evening/day at the Space, so access and turnaround times will be decided with companies and built into the schedule.
TECHNICIANS
The Space does not have an in-house technician. The visiting company will need their own technician to rig, focus and operate the show. However, we can recommend technicians who have worked with the Space before and are familiar with our set up. Please note that any technician we recommend will be hired by the company as a freelancer, not by the Space.
FINANCIAL DEAL
Please note, the venue’s financial deal is separate from the £150 festival registration fee.
Box Office Split: 50/50 box office split of gross box office between the company and the venue. The company does not pay the venue a hire fee, and the venue does not pay the company a performance fee. Please note that either 10 tickets per show or 33% of seats (whichever is GREATER) will be sold via Eventotron, the remainder will be sold via the Space. All tickets will be split 50/50 with a 6% admin fee.
Guarantee: We have a £90 guarantee to the Space per performance.
Capacity: The Space has a capacity of 90 seats, subject to the performing company’s chosen size of staging area. In most configurations, we would expect 50-60 seats.
Ticket price & booking fees: £19, £14 concessions.
VAT: If registered, the company is liable for VAT on their share of the tickets.
ONLINE SHOWS
We have the technology and expertise to livestream shows from the venue, which we offer as a free service to companies performing at the Space. Tickets for livestreamed shows are usually available on a Pay What You Choose basis. We are able to have shows available ‘on demand’ for up to 2 weeks after the performance.
We are also open to proposals for other kinds of digital theatre projects, to be discussed on a case by case basis. This could be an on-demand audio project, live online interactive performance, durational digital work, or something else.
Financial details:
- The venue and the performing company will split the tickets 50/50 in line with our in-person tickets.
